FAQs

What tests do I need to take to get my UK car driving licence?

To get a full UK driving licence, you must pass two main tests: the theory test and the practical driving test.

Steps required

1. Apply for a Provisional Licence

You must be at least 15 years and 9 months old to apply, but you cannot take the driving test until you are 17.

You’ll need to provide proof of identity, a valid UK address, and meet the eyesight requirement (being able to read a number plate at 20 metres).

2. Pass the Theory Test

The theory test is computer-based and has two parts:

  1. Multiple-choice questions: You must score at least 43 out of 50.
  2. Hazard perception test: You must score at least 44 out of 75.

The test covers road signs, traffic laws, safe driving practices, and hazard awareness.

You must pass both parts to move on to the practical test.

Once passed, your theory test certificate is valid for two years.

3. Pass the Practical Driving Test

You must be at least 17 years old and have a valid provisional licence and a theory test pass certificate.

The practical test consists of five parts:

  1. Eyesight check (reading a number plate from 20 metres)
  2. ‘Show me, tell me’ vehicle safety questions
  3. General driving ability (driving in various road and traffic conditions)
  4. Reversing your vehicle (such as parallel parking or reversing into a bay)
  5. Independent driving (following directions from a sat nav or road signs for about 20 minutes)

The test lasts around 40 minutes.

You can make up to 15 minor faults and still pass, but any serious or dangerous fault results in an instant fail.

I’ve failed my theory test, how will the app help me?

The app features the up to date DVSA theory test revision question bank. With a paid subscription you can take as many mock tests as you like. Each question and answer also contains an explanation so you can gain a deeper understanding.

The app also contains hazard perception video clips. Use these to practice your hazard perception skills so you’re ready for another attempt at your Theory Test.

I’m teaching someone else to drive, how will the app help?

The app features instructional videos created by award winning driving instructors. These videos cover key driving scenarios such as Junctions, Roundabouts and Crossroads. They’ll give you a driving instructors opinion of how to tackle these scenarios – which you can use to teach your pupil.

How can the app help me save money?

There are many apps that provide tools for your theory test but don’t help you with your practical test. This means you may have to buy two separate apps or addons.

We bundle the two tools together and one learn to drive app.

Our practical advice videos also help you learn practical skills quicker, allowing you to reduce the number of driving lessons you may need.
